Use Your Fridge Wisely

  • Make sure your fridge is at the correct temperature. Food will go off more quickly if it's too warm. It should between 0 and 5C. Most people keep it at 3C.
  • Don't overfill the fridge. You should leave space for the air to circulate.
  • Let cooked food cool at room temperature and then immediately put it in the fridge, at least within one to two hours.
  • Don't let the fridge door stay open for too long.
  • If you're not likely to use food before its "use by" date, put in the freezer if possible.
  • Don't take up valuable fridge space with food that doesn't need to be chilled. This includes bread, bananas, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, melons, eggs, cake and honey.

The eco-friendly life. You don’t have to be perfect but if everyone did what they could, what a different world it would be.
